Be careful everyone my WoW account was hacked yesterday, it can happen to you if you are not really cautious. Goldsellers are out there to make the easy buck now, they no longer farm like they used to and are now simply stealing people's info to sell their gold. Thankfully a GM is helping me atm but both my characters 70 Druid and 43 Hunter everything was taken and disenchanted which is worth about 7000g. |

Here is a long reply I made to a simple post on my old FFXI forums, basically what was said was: Druids, a useless class or a versatile one? What follows is what I replied.
Druid's "Cookie Cutter Roll" as far as most people are concerned is to be a spot healer, cross healer, there for battle rez and to innervate the priests. This is from a raiding standpoint. Druids don't have the tricks that a priest does for healing, which is why priests main heal tanks etc. but most of the time priests unless they use aoe heals for their party don't have the time in a raid instance to heal others in the raid other then their party or their tank. Which is why druid is excellent, you get the best HoTs in the game and with new swiftmend talent you can keep people alive very effectively.
From my experience playing, unless its certain bosses (see Firemaw in BWL) druids cross heal or are there to pick up slack for extra parties when there are not enough priests. I hardly have a problem going OOM when im healing my mana drip is fast enough I really don't have a problem. The only time I cast Healing Touch is either a) emergency or lots of damage being dealt or b ) after using nature's swiftness to quick heal someone. Otherwise I use my HoTs to cross heal, rejuv, regrowth and if those aren't covering it swiftmend and rejuv again and move on. Always make sure you have innervate up at start of a boss battle for priests and try to make sure you are using battle rez wisely, its very important and depending on what you're doing it can fill many rolls just in itself.
As for the versatility of druid, you could say that if you go on a grade scale, Druid is about B+ in healing, B- in tanking and C in DPS. A druid tank can be used in different situations very very well. While its not the best main tank, because we cannot block or use shields and we cannot sunder or mocking blow, druid is a good spot tank or secondary tank. With ALL my armor gear on I can have 14k armor and with my fire resist gear I can have 500 fire resist, so you can see where a druid would be helpful in tanking. Specific examples are, I have tanked Ragnaros because it was funny first off and just because of the way he fights. In ZG the raptor pulls before Bloodlord Mandokir can be tricky and you need 2 AoE taunts at least to keep them organized while AoEing them to death. I almost always am asked to step up and be first AoE taunt on them simply so tanks can save theirs and because I can get initial hate very fast. Another thing to note is, druid taunt is different then warrior taunt, druid taunt keeps a mob on you for 6 seconds, warrior taunt moves you up the threat meter to the mob. So in several instances a Druid in bear can save someone squishier if needed or can be a kiter or can be a rebound tank (see Spider Boss). As for cat form yes while it can dish out some good damage geared right it only has really one use in a raid and thats if you are feral with the 3% crit buff. In that case you are a melee party buffer simply for the extra crit. I have nothing against feral and have been one for as long as I have been resto, but mostly, if you are going to raid at least 21 in resto is the way to go.
(EDIT:) I forgot to mention decursing, its very important for some bosses and sometimes is a druids only roll for that boss. Reason being I forgot it is i have one key that handles all my decursing so I just stand in one spot and spam it. Not a hard job but definitely need to know when to do so. Keep in mind only druids and mages can decurse.
Feral is mostly for PvP and soloing. No I'm not being narrowminded, but its the sad truth that that is basically all it was built for, druid has much better skills to be used in a party or raid setting. If you are lucky enough to find a raid that desire you to be feral great, its an awesome and fun tree and if you are allowed to raid with it then more power to you. Learn to use innervate properly though as it is no longer talent and as many innervates as you can get the better.
Always have at least 2 sets of armor with you, if not more, I carry 4 myself. The two you need to carry are healing and bear. I carry healing, bear, cat and drip gear. Depending on my situation, basically just know what you are doing and communicate so you know what to wear and to be prepared.
I suppose I've gone on quite a bit I'll wrap it up here soon. One thing I want to make sure to say is, if you raid, decide on what you want to roll on if you do want feral gear. Don't roll on both feral and healing, you WILL piss people off. It's a simple matter of fact that since druid can do so much they can use a lot of things and that makes it seem to some people as a loot hog and you don't want that kind of negative feelings. So decide what you want beforehand as to be fair.
(Here are some talent sets I have used and what I found to be the weaknesses and the strengths)
5 Balance/11 Feral/35 Restoration (My Current Build, The PvP Resto Druid)
Emphasis on healing with talents in balance for natures grasp and talents in feral for brutal impact, feral charge and thick hide so that while pvping you can heal or switch to bear form and basically never die, the point on this in pvp is to outlast, not to be the big dps.
14/32/5 (Pure Feral)
This is my 2nd favorite build and the one I have a lot of experience in as well, it was my pvp build as I was grinding honor, point of this build is to sneak up to someone with cat ravage and switch to bear to destroy them. This is also the build I would use if you were asked to go feral in raid situation for the crit buff.
0/30/21 (Feral/Swiftness)
This is another excellent healing/feral build as it still gives you core healing talents while only sacrificing leader of the pack and natures grasp. The extra mana from heart of the wild is very nice for making up for what you lack from the resto tree if you go this build, and now with innervate as non-talent this is a very feasable raiding tree as well if you like to pvp in your spare time.
5/0/46 (Pure Healing Build)
Pretty self explanatory.
------
Note: No I did not talk about balance tree, OOMkin or anything of the such for two reasons, I have never been an oomkin and I never plan on being one. Moonkins are OK/fair in their own right but I have no experience so I cannot give you anything but biased unfair advice on them.
Other then that any questions, comments or anything of the such feel free to PM me or reply. Hope this was helpful to someone. |

| | Lean Back - Fat Joe | ] | Disclaimer: This is just a rant thread as I am very angry right now. If you choose to read, it may not be complete thoughts but merely a way for me to vent my frustration. You've been warned.
I hate Honor Kill Farmers, I seriously do. I cannot stand it entering a BG where in the first place you are outnumbered but if you work together, you could still win or put up a fight at least. Only to look at the list of people on the BG and see known HK farmers. It annoys me to no end. For instance a char named Pandom on my server a Gnome Warlock, will never join a group, will not listen to reasoning and will make no attempt to help Alliance win, she will simply, go to where she sees Horde and start killing. You may not think this so bad, but in a battleground, things go very poorly unless people contribute to the GAME not just themselves. I cannot stand seeing her getting into their flag room in WSG simply to kill more and never touch the flag, or merely kill the easiest people when shes in ours and they make an offensive. In AB I will see this gnome, among others, simply fight people on roads or go to enemy flags to fight and do nothing to defend or assault. It ruins my day every time. I am so angry about it, its not even funny anymore, I really wish you could vote to kick your own players from a BG. Thank the Maker I haven't seen this happen as much in AV, the real BG, but when you can't get into that for 4-6 hours, and you are stuck with WSG and AB, it irritates me. Has anyone else run into this problem or something similar? Any solutions you've thought of? I mean other then the fact that I could stay out of those BGs, but I won't because I want reputation for the nice PvP items.
These people really should stick to raiding towns, where they don't harm the progress of other players, (It's a PVE server no ganking so thusly no progress interupted). |
